A knowledgeable driver guide will lead you through the stunning landscapes of the Adelaide Hills and Mount Lofty Ranges, passing through quaint villages and picturesque scenery before reaching Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest German settlement.

Hahndorf, a must-visit destination, invites you to explore its charming streets and rich heritage at your own pace. From there, head to Mount Barker, where you'll board the iconic Steamranger Heritage Railway for a memorable journey through the Adelaide Hills onboard beautifully restored early 1900s railway carriages.

Your adventure continues with a scenic return trip aboard the Highlander Train, passing through lush gumtree forests and fertile farmland to the historic town of Strathalbyn. Whether you’re keen on exploring antique and collectable stores, indulging in some retail therapy, or simply relaxing with a drink by the river, Strathalbyn offers something for every traveler.​

  • 10.30 AM - Arrive Mount Lofty Summit Lookout

  • 11.15 AM - Arrive at Beerenberg Strawberry Farm

  • 11.30 AM - Arrive in Hahndorf Main Street (free time to explore the town and purchase some lunch)

  •  1.50 PM - Arrive at the Mount Barker Railway Station to board the Steamranger train

  •  2.00 PM - Depart aboard the Steamranger Highlander Train to Strathalbyn

  •  3.00 PM - Arrive at Strathalbyn with free time to explore the town.

  •  4.00 PM - Depart Strathalbyn aboard the train for Mount Barker

  •  5.10 PM - Depart Mount Barker Railway Station and travel back to Adelaide

  •  5.45 PM - Arrive back in Adelaide

Tour Bits & Tips          
  • Mount Lofty, the highest peak in the Adelaide Hills, was named by Matthew Flinders in 1802 during his exploration of South Australia. It became a key landmark for early settlers and explorers.                                   

  • Built in 1857, the Hahndorf Academy originally served as a school. It is now a cultural and arts center that showcases local history and provides a glimpse into the educational practices of the past.                                         

  • The Steamranger Heritage Railway maintain and operate over 80 kilometres of railway line, making it the longest preserved railway line in Australia.                                      

  • Strathalbyn, established in the 1830s, was originally a settlement for Scottish immigrants. The town’s rich history is evident in its well-preserved heritage buildings, antique stores, and the Strathalbyn Historical Society’s museum.
